Insurance quote-abandonment recovery

Your prospect got a price they liked, then froze at the medical question — reach them before the quote goes cold.

What it does

Someone runs an auto, home, or life quote, sees the premium, and stalls before binding — unsure whether the cover is enough, thrown by an underwriting or health question, or wanting to think about the price. Quotes expire and rate locks lapse, so the marketing spend that produced the quote is written off unless someone re-engages fast. The agent reaches out on the channel the prospect chose, answers the coverage, rating, or medical question that stalled them, and resumes the quote from the exact step so it becomes a bound policy instead of a dead one.

How it works

  1. 1
Trigger. the quoting platform flags a started-but-unbound quote; a timed window opens so outreach lands while the rate is still valid.
  2. 2
Decision. the agent reads which step the prospect left at and the likely blocker — a coverage-comprehension gap, an underwriting/medical disclosure, or premium hesitation — then checks consent, quiet hours, and the regulated-communication rules for the line of business. A judge gates the message before it sends.
  3. 3
Action. outreach on the preferred channel — SMS, email, chat, or an outbound voice call for a high-value life quote — with a link back to the saved quote at the exact step. When the prospect replies, the agent explains the cover or the rating factor in plain language and walks them to bind.
  4. 4
Follow-through. non-response gets one scheduled follow-up; if the prospect binds on their own or the quote expires, pending outreach is cancelled rather than sent stale. Bound-rate lift is measured against a holdout so the effect is provable, and the agent never gives advice beyond the carrier's approved coverage explanations — anything resembling a recommendation or a complex underwriting decision routes to a licensed agent.
Example
AgentYou were close to finishing your term-life quote — it looks like you paused at the health questionnaire. Those questions set your rate, and most are quick yes/no. Your saved quote at £24/month is still valid here: [resume link].
CustomerI take blood-pressure medication — does that disqualify me?
AgentDisclosing a medication doesn't stop your application — these questions just go to the underwriter so your rate reflects your real situation. I can't make that call myself, so I'll record it accurately and a licensed adviser confirms the final rate. Want me to walk you through the rest of the questions now?

Configuration

How the agent is wired for this use case.

Triggerquote_abandoned event from the quoting/rating platform (a quote created without a bind), plus a timed non-response trigger before the rate-lock expiry.
Tools & actions
  • Quoting / rating platform · read the saved quote, the drop-off step, and the rate-lock expiry; generate a resume link to the exact step.
  • Policy admin system · check the prospect's existing policies and eligibility for the requested line.
  • Knowledge base · retrieve approved coverage explanations and rating-factor language for the answer.
  • CRM · log outreach, replies, and bind/no-bind outcome; suppress contacts who bound or opted out.
  • Messaging channel · send the resume link and run the conversation on the prospect's chosen channel.
Autonomyoutreach and coverage explanations run unattended under judge review; the agent never makes an underwriting decision or recommends a specific policy — medical-disclosure handling and any suitability question are treated as a regulated-advice class and hand off to a licensed agent.
Channelssms · email · chat · voice
Escalationcomplex underwriting, a declined-risk indicator, an explicit advice request, or a vulnerability signal hands off to a licensed agent with the quote context attached.

What you need

The inputs this use case runs on. Your channels stay yours; the agent supplies the judgment.

Signals

quoting-funnel events (quote_started, step completions, quote_abandoned), rate-lock expiry, timed non-response triggers.

Data

prospect contact details and preferred channel, the exact drop-off step, quote and rating state, line of business, consent and regulated-communication status.

Guardrails

insurance marketing and suitability rules per line and region, explicit consent, no underwriting decisions or policy advice from the agent, frequency caps, judge review of every unprompted message, holdout measurement.

Metrics it moves

  • application-completionup: prospects resume from the exact quote step instead of abandoning, measured against a holdout.
  • conversion-rateup: the coverage, rating, or medical question that stalled the bind gets answered while the rate is still valid.
  • recovered-revenueup: acquisition spend already paid for these quotes; binding them is the cheapest premium available.
