Insurance FNOL intake and claim status
Someone's just had a crash on the motorway at 11pm and needs to report it now — not at nine tomorrow when the claims line opens.
What it does
A loss happens on its own schedule, and the first notice of it lands at any hour on whatever channel the policyholder reaches for, often from someone shaken and not thinking clearly. Getting clean, structured incident details out of a stressed customer normally needs a trained agent on the line, and once a claim is open the same customer calls back again and again just to ask where it stands. The agent takes the first notice of loss 24/7 on voice or chat, runs the emergency check first, confirms the policy is active and the loss type is eligible to file, captures a structured claim, pivots a phone call to a digital link for photos, and then keeps the policyholder updated through the lifecycle so they stop having to chase.
How it works
- 1Trigger. a policyholder reports a loss — an inbound call, a chat message, or a "start a claim" action — or a claim-status milestone changes on an open claim and prompts a proactive update.
- 2Decision. the agent runs the emergency check first (is anyone hurt, is the situation safe), then validates the policy and that the loss type is covered, and works through the structured FNOL questions for that line of business; it reads claim context from the claims system and a judge gates anything it sends.
- 3Action. on voice it captures the core details and texts an SMS link so the customer can upload photos and documents from the scene; on chat it walks the same intake inline. It files a structured first notice of loss, gives the customer their claim reference, and sets expectations for next steps in plain language.
- 4Follow-through. as the claim moves, the agent sends proactive status updates on the customer's channel so they don't have to call in to ask; emergencies, suspected-fraud signals, total-loss or injury claims, and any coverage or liability judgement are handed to a licensed adjuster rather than decided by the agent.

Metrics it moves
- intake-completionup: a guided, 24/7 first notice of loss captures a complete, structured claim the moment the loss happens instead of waiting for office hours.
- time-to-resolutiondown: a clean structured FNOL with photos attached up front means fewer back-and-forth gaps before an adjuster can act.
- contact-ratedown: proactive status updates remove the repeat "where's my claim?" calls that otherwise flood the claims line.
