Abandoned-application completion outreach

A half-finished loan application is a customer who already said yes — reach them before the intent fades.

What it does

Someone gets most of the way through a loan or account application, then a confusing field, a missing document, or a phone call stops them. Most never come back on their own, and the acquisition spend that got them there is quietly written off — abandoned applications are one of the biggest sources of unrealised revenue in financial services. The agent reaches out on the applicant's preferred channel with a personalised link back to the exact step they left, answers the blocking question live, and follows up once if there's no response.

How it works

  1. 1
Trigger. application-flow events flag a mid-flow drop-off; a timed window starts so outreach lands while intent is still fresh.
  2. 2
Decision. the agent reads where the applicant stopped and what was likely blocking them, checks consent, quiet hours, and regulated-communication rules for the product. The judge gates the message before it goes out.
  3. 3
Action. outreach on the preferred channel — SMS, email, chat, push, or voice where appropriate — with a resume link to the exact step. When the applicant replies, the agent answers the blocking question in the conversation and walks them to completion.
  4. 4
Follow-through. non-response gets one scheduled follow-up; if the applicant completes on their own first, pending outreach is cancelled rather than sent stale. Every outcome is logged to the CRM, and completion lift is measured against a holdout group so the effect is provable, not assumed.
Example
AgentYou were a few steps from finishing your application — it looks like you paused at income verification. You can upload a recent payslip or connect your bank account read-only. Your saved progress is here: [resume link].
CustomerI wasn't sure which documents actually count.
AgentA recent payslip or your latest tax statement both work. Once it's uploaded, the remaining steps are quick — I'll stay in the chat while you finish, in case anything else comes up.

Configuration

How the agent is wired for this use case.

Triggeran application_abandoned event from the application flow flags a mid-flow drop-off; a timed window starts so outreach lands while intent is fresh.
Tools & actions
  • Loan-origination / application platform · read the exact drop-off step and application state, generate the resume link
  • Customer memory store · recall what was likely blocking the applicant at that step
  • Messaging channel · send the preferred-channel outreach (SMS, email, chat, push, voice), answer the blocking question, and walk the applicant to completion
  • CRM · log every outcome and cancel pending outreach if the applicant completes first
  • Scheduler · queue the single non-response follow-up
Autonomyjudge-gated outreach and in-conversation answers run unattended within approved policy; the agent gives no advice beyond approved lending policy, follows regulated-communication rules, and completion lift is measured against a holdout.
Channelschat · email · sms · voice · push
Escalationa question that exceeds approved policy or requires advice is handed off to a human agent.

What you need

The inputs this use case runs on. Your channels stay yours; the agent supplies the judgment.

Signals

application-funnel events (application_started, step completions, application_abandoned), timed non-response triggers

Data

applicant contact details and preferred channel, the exact drop-off step, application state, consent and regulatory status of the product

Guardrails

regulated-communication rules for lending, explicit consent, no advice beyond approved policy, frequency caps, judge review of every unprompted message, holdout measurement

Metrics it moves

  • application-completionup: applicants resume from the exact step instead of restarting or disappearing, measured against a holdout.
  • conversion-rateup: blocking questions get answered live, in the moment they would otherwise kill the application.
  • recovered-revenueup: acquisition spend already paid for these applicants; completing them is the cheapest revenue available.
