Retain / Save
Hardware-tied subscription renewal save
The annual sub renews next month, and if it lapses the smart device the user paid for drops to manual — so before the decision the agent shows them exactly what the automation did for their sleep this year.
What it does
Some wellness subscriptions are coupled to a physical device — a smart bed that adjusts temperature through the night, a connected alarm, an automated sleep schedule — and when the annual sub lapses the hardware degrades to a manual shell of what was bought. The renewal arrives as a charge, never as a reason, and a user who stopped noticing the nightly automation lets it lapse and only feels the loss weeks later. The agent gets ahead of that decision with a value recap built from the user's own device data, not a discount. It surfaces how often the automation actually worked for them and what it moved on their sleep scores, so the renewal question is answered with evidence the user can feel rather than a price they resent.
How it works
- 1Trigger. the annual renewal date approaches on a hardware-coupled plan, prioritized where recent engagement or sleep-score trend flags lapse risk.
- 2Decision. the agent pulls the user's year from the device and app — nights the automation adjusted the device, sleep-score movement, features that would switch off on lapse — and decides between a confident value recap, a save that surfaces under-felt value, or a lighter-plan conversation.
- 3Action. it opens a personal renewal-review message on the channel the user prefers (push, email, in-app, or chat): a concrete recap of what the automation did this year, a plain statement of what reverts to manual if the sub lapses, and a clear path to renew.
- 4Follow-through. the conversation and outcome write back to memory; a user who stays silent gets one judged follow-up, not a drip; any payment runs through the client's own secure hand-off; if the user renews on their own, queued outreach is cancelled, and the save is measured against a holdout.
Configuration
How the agent is wired for this use case.
subscription_renewal_approaching event on a device-coupled plan, prioritized by a lapse-risk flag from engagement or sleep-score trend.- Wearable / device feed · read the year of usage: nights the automation acted, sleep-score trend, which device features depend on the active subscription
- Billing platform · read the renewal date and plan; offer a lighter plan where one exists
- CRM · read past renewal behavior and segment; log the renewal conversation and outcome
- App backend · confirm which automated features revert to manual on lapse, for an accurate "what you lose" recap
- Messaging channel · open the value-recap conversation and render the usage summary
- Hosted payment step · hand off to the client's own secure renewal flow when the user chooses to renew
What you need
The inputs this use case runs on. Your channels stay yours; the agent supplies the judgment.
Signals
annual renewal dates on hardware-coupled plans, lapse-risk flags from engagement or sleep-score decay, device-usage events
Data
per-user device telemetry (automation actions, sleep-score trend), the feature set that depends on the active sub, plan and renewal history, channel consent
Guardrails
judge gating on every unprompted message; one follow-up cap on silence; numbers in the recap come only from the user's own device data, never a generic claim; no payment taken by the agent — renewal runs through the client's secure hand-off; frequency caps and opt-out; the client keeps owning the send channels; stale-outreach cancellation once the user renews; holdout measurement
Metrics it moves
- renewal-rateup, by answering the renewal question with the user's own demonstrated device value before the date instead of a charge they second-guess
- save-rateup on plans that enter the window flagged for lapse risk, saved on value rather than a blanket discount
- churndown, as users who would silently let the automation lapse renew on evidence they can feel
