Travel lifecycle-moment outreach

A year ago this week they were on a beach they loved — and right now they have no plans to go anywhere.

What it does

A traveller's calendar is full of moments worth a conversation, and almost none of them get one. The trip they took last spring is a year behind them, the destination they keep returning to is back in season, the loyalty status they earned is quietly about to expire, and a flight they booked is three days out with nothing said. Most travel brands either miss these moments or fire the same newsletter at everyone. The agent reads the travel calendar per customer and opens the right conversation at the right point in the cycle, so a one-off trip turns into a repeat booking and a dormant account stays in the relationship.

How it works

  1. 1
Trigger. a travel-cycle moment fires for a customer — a trip anniversary, a destination re-entering its season, a points or status balance nearing expiry, or a departure date a few days out.
  2. 2
Decision. the agent reads the customer's travel memory — where they have been, what they book, who they travel with, which channel they answer on, whether they were contacted recently — and chooses the moment worth acting on. Every unprompted message is judge-gated for relevance and tone before it sends.
  3. 3
Action. a conversational opener lands on push, email, chat, or WhatsApp — "ready to plan the next one?", "your favourite stretch of coast is back in season", "your points expire next month, here's what they'll cover", or a pre-trip "anything you need before you fly?" — each with a one-tap path into planning or booking.
  4. 4
Follow-through. if the customer is already mid-booking or has just travelled, the queued moment is cancelled before it sends; bookings and replies write back to the profile; expiry-driven nudges stop the moment the points are used.
Example
AgentThis time last year you were in Lisbon — you rated the trip five stars and the rooftop place twice. Spring fares to Portugal just opened and the weather window you liked is back. Want me to pull a few options like last time?
CustomerMaybe. Anything around the same budget?
AgentHere are three in the range you booked before, same neighbourhood feel, one with the sea view you asked about last time. Pick one and I'll hold it while you decide on dates.

Configuration

How the agent is wired for this use case.

Triggera travel-cycle event — trip_anniversary, destination_in_season, points_or_status_expiring, or pre_departure_window — raised from the booking and loyalty systems against the customer's profile.
Tools & actions
  • Booking / reservation system · read trip history, upcoming departures, and what the customer books, to anchor the moment.
  • Loyalty / points platform · read tier, points balance, and expiry timers; surface what points would cover.
  • Fare / inventory search · check live availability and pricing for the destination so the offer is real, not stale.
  • Customer memory store · read past destinations, ratings, travel companions, and channel preference to choose the hook.
  • Messaging channel · open the conversational moment on push, email, chat, or WhatsApp with a one-tap path into planning.
Autonomyruns unattended; every lifecycle message is judge-gated for relevance and tone and is suppressed the moment the customer is already booking or has just travelled. No payment is taken in this flow — booking or upgrade with payment hands off to the client's secure payment step; this card opens the conversation and assembles the option.
Channelspush · email · chat · whatsapp
Escalationa service issue on a live booking, a complaint, or a disruption query hands off to travel support with the trip context attached rather than continuing the lifecycle thread.

What you need

The inputs this use case runs on. Your channels stay yours; the agent supplies the judgment.

Signals

travel-cycle timers — trip anniversaries, seasonality windows per destination, points and status expiry dates, pre-departure windows; booking and just-travelled events for stale-send cancellation.

Data

per-customer trip history, destinations and ratings, loyalty tier and points balance, travel companions, channel preference and consent.

Guardrails

judge gating on every unprompted send; coordination with the marketing calendar so the agent and existing campaigns never collide on the same traveller; frequency caps; opt-out honored across all channels; the brand keeps owning the send channels; stale moments cancelled once the customer books or returns.

Metrics it moves

  • reactivation-rateup: a trip anniversary or in-season nudge reopens travellers who would otherwise stay dormant until they happened to plan again.
  • conversion-rateup: a moment tied to where the customer actually goes converts where a generic destination newsletter is ignored.
  • open-rateup: "this time last year you were in Lisbon" earns the tap a mass send does not.
