Lending application completion outreach

A borrower stopped at the income-document upload — one answered question turns that lapse into a funded loan.

What it does

A borrower gets partway through a loan or credit application, then stalls at the affordability questions, the document upload, or hesitates at the hard credit pull. Most never return on their own, and the application lapses with the acquisition cost already spent. The agent reaches out with a resume link to the exact step, answers the blocking question live — what counts as proof of income, why the check is needed, what happens to their score — and chases the one missing input so applications that would otherwise expire turn into funded loans.

How it works

  1. 1
Trigger. origination-flow events flag a mid-flow drop-off; a timed window opens so outreach lands while intent is still fresh.
  2. 2
Decision. the agent reads where the borrower stopped and the likely blocker — affordability evidence, a stalled document upload, or hard-credit-pull hesitation — and checks consent, quiet hours, and the regulated-communication rules for consumer credit. A judge gates the message before it sends.
  3. 3
Action. outreach on the preferred channel — chat, SMS, email, or an outbound voice call for a larger facility — with a resume link to the exact step. When the borrower replies, the agent explains what document is needed and why, reassures on the credit-check question within approved language, and walks them to submit.
  4. 4
Follow-through. non-response gets one scheduled follow-up; if the borrower completes on their own or the application expires, pending outreach is cancelled rather than sent stale. Every outcome is logged to the origination record, completion lift is measured against a holdout, and the agent gives no lending advice or eligibility promise beyond approved policy — affordability and credit-decision questions route to a human.
Example
AgentYou were nearly through your loan application — it looks like you stopped at the income step. You can upload a recent payslip or connect your bank read-only; it takes about a minute. Your saved progress is here: [resume link].
CustomerWill finishing this run another hard credit check? I don't want another mark.
AgentNo — the hard check already ran when you started, so completing now adds nothing to your file. The only thing left is the income document. Want me to stay in the chat while you upload it?

Configuration

How the agent is wired for this use case.

Triggerapplication_abandoned event from the loan-origination system (a started application with no submission), plus a timed non-response trigger.
Tools & actions
  • Loan-origination system · read the application state and drop-off step; generate a secure resume link to the exact step.
  • Document-collection service · check which required document is missing (proof of income, ID) and confirm receipt on upload.
  • Knowledge base · retrieve approved answers on affordability evidence and the credit-check process.
  • CRM · log outreach, replies, and funded/lapsed outcome; suppress contacts who submitted or opted out.
  • Messaging channel · send the resume link and run the conversation on the borrower's chosen channel.
Autonomyoutreach, document explanations, and resume-link delivery run unattended under judge review; affordability assessment, eligibility promises, and the credit decision are a regulated-advice class the agent never performs — those questions hand off to a human underwriter or adviser.

What you need

The inputs this use case runs on. Your channels stay yours; the agent supplies the judgment.

Data

borrower contact details and preferred channel, the exact drop-off step, application and document state, consent and regulated-communication status.

Guardrails

consumer-credit communication rules and Consumer-Duty obligations, explicit consent, no affordability assessment or lending advice from the agent, frequency caps, judge review of every unprompted message, holdout measurement.

Metrics it moves

  • application-completionup: borrowers resume from the exact step instead of restarting or disappearing, measured against a holdout.
  • conversion-rateup: the document or credit-check question that froze the application gets answered in the moment.
  • recovered-revenueup: funded loans from applications the acquisition spend already paid to start.
