Morning-routine guided start

She set up a morning routine on Sunday full of good intentions — on Tuesday the app walks her through it one step at a time so it actually happens.

What it does

A habit app's biggest activation gap is the distance between committing to a routine and doing it. A new user builds an ambitious morning sequence — water, stretch, intention, journal — then faces it the next morning as one vague block and skips it, and a routine never performed is a habit that never forms. Instead of firing a single "time for your routine" reminder and hoping, the agent walks her through the committed sequence step by step at her wake time, holding her in the moment from the first action to the last. That guided start is what turns an abstract routine into the keystone habit the whole product depends on.

How it works

  1. 1
Trigger. the user's set wake time arrives (or a wake signal from a connected device feed), and the agent has a committed morning routine on file.
  2. 2
Decision. the agent reads the routine's ordered steps and what she has completed on past mornings, picks the right entry point and pace, and a quality judge checks the moment is wanted — not a rest day, not already done, inside her chosen hours.
  3. 3
Action. it opens the sequence one step at a time on push and in-app ("first, a glass of water — tap when it's done"), advancing only as each step is confirmed so the routine is performed, not just announced.
  4. 4
Follow-through. completions and skips write back to her streak and memory to tune tomorrow's pace and order; a routine she finishes on her own before the prompt cancels the queued start, and missed steps are quietly carried forward rather than nagged.
Example
AgentMorning. Let's do your routine together — first up, a glass of water. Tap done when you've had it.

AgentNice. Next is two minutes of stretching — I'll wait here. After that it's your one-line intention for the day, and that's the whole routine. You're three for three this week.

Configuration

How the agent is wired for this use case.

Triggerthe user's configured wake time (or a wake event from a connected wearable/device feed) with a committed morning routine on file.
Tools & actions
  • App backend · read the committed routine and its ordered steps; receive per-step confirmations and write completions back
  • Memory store · recall past-morning completion patterns, pace, and preferred order to tune the walkthrough
  • Scheduling system · fire the start at wake time and cancel the queued sequence if she completes the routine on her own first
  • Messaging channel · deliver the step-by-step prompts on push and in-app and advance only as each step is confirmed
  • Knowledge base · ground the short why-this-helps lines attached to each routine step
Autonomythe guided start fires and advances unattended behind a relevance/timing judge with "don't start" as a first-class outcome (rest days, already-done mornings, quiet hours); no money moves and no confirmation step is needed, and pacing self-adjusts from her completion history.
Channelspush · in-app · chat
Escalationnone — this is an engagement surface; a start that fails the judge or goes stale is suppressed, not handed to a human, and a routine left unfinished simply rolls its remaining steps to the next morning.

What you need

The inputs this use case runs on. Your channels stay yours; the agent supplies the judgment.

Signals

the user's wake time or a wake event from a connected device, plus per-step completion and skip events from the app

Data

the committed routine and its ordered steps, per-user completion history and streak state, notification consent, device tokens, and quiet hours

Guardrails

judge review of every start with "don't start" as a first-class outcome; frequency caps and quiet hours; rest-day and already-completed suppression; general wellness framing only, never medical instruction

Metrics it moves

  • activation-rateup, because a routine that is walked through gets performed instead of admired and abandoned
  • dau-mauup, as each morning becomes a guided session rather than a reminder she dismisses
  • adherenceup, since holding the user step by step is what converts a committed routine into a repeated daily habit
