Retain / Save

Silent-maintenance non-renewal save

Once the weight is off, the patient stops feeling the urgency — and the renewal lapses without a single complaint to warn you.

What it does

In the maintenance phase, late in the program, the loudest churn is silent. The patient has hit their goal, the daily reason to engage has faded, and the renewal simply does not happen — no cancel-flow, no ticket, no signal a reactive support team would ever see. Because nothing breaks, nothing alerts, and the program discovers the loss only when the charge fails to recur. The agent works this window proactively: it detects the quiet decay before the renewal date, reframes maintenance as the part that protects everything the patient already achieved, and opens a renewal conversation while the patient is still reachable rather than a recovery email after they have gone.

How it works

  1. 1
Trigger. the patient is in the maintenance window with an upcoming renewal date, and engagement decays below their own baseline — fewer logs, fewer opens, quieter chat — without any explicit cancel signal.
  2. 2
Decision. the agent reads the patient's memory (goal reached, progress held, what motivated them, renewal date and payment-method health) and decides whether this is a quiet confirmation, a maintenance-value reframe, or a case that needs a human. A judge gates every unprompted message for tone and safety.
  3. 3
Action. ahead of the renewal it opens a personal conversation on the patient's consented channel (push, email, WhatsApp, or chat) — naming the quiet, framing maintenance as keeping the result rather than chasing a new one, and giving a clear path to continue. Any payment step runs through the client's own secure payment hand-off.
  4. 4
Follow-through. the outcome is written back to memory; a silent patient gets one judged follow-up, not a drip; clinical questions hand off to a clinician; if the patient renews on their own, queued outreach is cancelled. Renewal lift on the silent cohort is measured against a holdout.
Example
AgentYou hit your goal a while back, and you've held it since — that's the hard part done. Your plan renews next week, and I noticed you've been quieter lately, so I wanted to check in before it lapses by default rather than by choice.
CustomerI figured I was finished, honestly. Do I even still need it?
AgentReaching the goal and keeping it are two different stages — maintenance is what protects the work you put in, and most people who stay on it keep the result. If you'd rather step down, there's a lighter maintenance plan too. Want me to walk you through both before the renewal?

Configuration

How the agent is wired for this use case.

Triggera maintenance-phase patient with an upcoming renewal date plus engagement-decay against their own baseline and no explicit cancel signal, sourced from the program app and the subscription billing system.
Tools & actions
  • Subscription billing · read renewal date, plan, and payment-method health; surface a continue or step-down maintenance path
  • Customer record / CRM · read goal-reached state, progress held, and motivators; write the outcome back
  • Memory store · read what motivated the patient and prior maintenance conversations
  • Payment provider · run any payment step through the client's hosted secure payment hand-off
  • Messaging channel · open the personal maintenance-renewal conversation
Autonomyquiet confirmations and maintenance-value reframes run unattended behind judge gating; a plan step-down is customer-confirmed and any charge runs through the client's hosted payment step under a bounded billing-action policy; clinical questions route to a clinician.
Channelspush · email · whatsapp · chat
Escalationclinical questions hand off to a clinician; contested or high-value renewals hand off to a human with the full picture attached.

What you need

The inputs this use case runs on. Your channels stay yours; the agent supplies the judgment.

Signals

maintenance-phase flag, upcoming renewal date, engagement-decay against the patient's own baseline, payment-method status

Data

goal-reached and progress-held state, motivators and maintenance-conversation memory, plan and renewal terms, channel consent

Guardrails

judge gating on every unprompted message; one follow-up cap on silence; maintenance-value framing, never pressure; clinical questions route to a clinician; suppression once the patient renews; holdout measurement on the silent cohort

Metrics it moves

  • renewal-rateup, by reaching the silent maintenance cohort before the renewal lapses by default
  • churndown, as goal-reached patients are reframed into protecting the result rather than quitting
  • save-rateup, on maintenance accounts decaying without any explicit cancel signal
  • ltvup, by extending the high-value maintenance tail the program already earned
