Cold-chain storage-failure delivery intercept

A refrigerated injectable that spent the afternoon on a warm doorstep may already be useless — and the patient cannot tell by looking. The agent catches it at the door, before a degraded pen gets injected.

What it does

A GLP-1 pen, a peptide vial, and compounded testosterone all ship cold and stay good only inside a narrow storage window. When a delivery is missed, left in the heat, or sits unrefrigerated, the medicine can quietly degrade with no visible sign, and a patient who injects it loses the dose and the week of progress. The patient's instinct is to use it anyway, or to throw out a perfectly good pen out of doubt — both cost the program money and trust. The agent treats the delivery event itself as the moment to act: it confirms safe receipt, walks this product's storage window, and on any "it sat out" or "is it still good?" report routes a potency and replacement decision to the pharmacy, so a silently-degraded vial never gets used and a still-good one is not wasted.

How it works

  1. 1
Trigger. a delivery event for a refrigerated injectable — delivered, missed, or flagged with a temperature excursion — or a patient message reporting a pen left in the heat or a doubt about whether it is still good.
  2. 2
Decision. the agent identifies the product and its storage rule from the order record, then reads how long the medicine was out of range against that window, deciding whether this is a routine receipt confirmation or a potency question that needs the pharmacy.
  3. 3
Action. on safe receipt it confirms storage in plain language for this product; on a storage failure it does not guess — it routes the case to the pharmacy with the product, the excursion details, and the timeline, and tells the patient to hold off until the pharmacy rules on it.
  4. 4
Follow-through. a pharmacy "replace" decision triggers a reship and writes back to the order system and memory; a "still safe to use" answer is relayed with the storage reminder. An unresolved potency case on an active prescription escalates rather than going quiet.
Example
AgentYour refrigerated pen was delivered at 1pm. It needs to go in the fridge within the storage window on the leaflet — is it chilled and stored now?
CustomerIt was left in the sun on the porch and I only just got home, hours later. Is it still okay to use?
AgentBecause it was out of refrigeration that long, I won't guess on potency — I've sent the product, the time out, and the temperature to the pharmacy to decide. Please hold off on injecting until they confirm, and if they call it, I'll have a replacement shipped cold to you.

Configuration

How the agent is wired for this use case.

Triggera delivery_completed, delivery_missed, or temperature_excursion event from the delivery system, or a patient-reported storage concern in chat, for a product flagged cold-chain.
Tools & actions
  • Delivery / logistics feed · read delivery, missed-delivery, and temperature-excursion events as the trigger.
  • Pharmacy system · look up the product's storage window; route a potency and replacement decision with the excursion details and timeline.
  • Order system · identify the shipped product and lot; trigger a reship on a pharmacy "replace" decision and write back the outcome.
  • Messaging channel · confirm safe receipt or relay the pharmacy decision by push, SMS, in-app, or chat.
  • Knowledge base · surface this product's plain-language storage guidance for the confirmation message.
Autonomyreceipt confirmations and storage reminders run unattended behind judge gating; the potency call is never the agent's — it detects the excursion and hands the decision to the pharmacy, and only a pharmacy "replace" ruling authorises the reship. The agent gives no dose advice and never tells a patient a degraded pen is safe.

What you need

The inputs this use case runs on. Your channels stay yours; the agent supplies the judgment.

Signals

delivery, missed-delivery, and temperature-excursion events from the delivery system; patient-reported storage concerns.

Data

the shipped product and lot, per-product storage windows, prescription state, patient memory, channel consent.

Guardrails

judge gating on every unprompted message; the agent detects and routes a potency question but never rules on it; no dose advice; a degraded-pen decision always sits with the pharmacy; care-team escalation for an unresolved case on an active prescription.

Metrics it moves

  • adherenceup, because a fast replacement on a spoiled delivery keeps the next injection day covered instead of skipped.
  • recovered-revenuedown on waste and up on retention: fewer good pens binned out of doubt, fewer programs abandoned after a bad delivery.
  • csatup, the patient is protected from injecting a degraded dose and never left guessing at the door.
