Engage / Lifecycle

Proactive coaching companion for fitness and wellness

Every member started with a goal and a burst of motivation; the agent is the coach who keeps showing up on the day they don't feel like it.

What it does

A wellness or fitness subscription is bought on intention and kept on habit, and the gap between the two is where members quietly stop opening the app and then cancel. Nobody on the team can text every member on the morning they skip a workout, the week a streak breaks, or the month a goal stops moving. The agent is an always-on coach assigned to every member, with one memory of their goal, their routine, and their recent activity, that reaches out at exactly those moments with a nudge that fits this person rather than a broadcast. In a model where ongoing engagement is the revenue, that presence is what turns a free-trial habit into a renewing member.

How it works

  1. 1
Trigger. an activity or habit signal arrives — a workout logged or missed, a streak about to break, a connected wearable showing low movement or poor recovery, a weekly goal-trajectory check falling behind the member's own target, or a planned milestone check-in coming due.
  2. 2
Decision. the agent reads the member's persistent memory — their stated goal, their usual routine, what encouraged them last time, the plateau they hit before — and weighs whether a message genuinely helps right now. Every unprompted message passes a quality judge; quiet hours and frequency caps apply.
  3. 3
Action. a short, personal nudge on the channel the member actually answers — a streak-recovery note after a missed day, encouragement pegged to their own progress when a plateau hits, a gentle "an easy session or a rest day is fine today" after a run of poor-recovery readings, a celebration when they reach a milestone.
  4. 4
Follow-through. replies write back to the same memory so the coaching stays continuous, the pending nudge is cancelled the moment the member opens the app on their own, and impact is measured against a holdout so the engagement lift claimed is the lift measured.
Example
AgentYou're three days into your strength streak and yesterday slipped past without a session — easy week to lose. Your usual Tuesday slot is open. Want a shorter 20-minute version to keep the run alive?
CustomerYeah honestly I just ran out of time and felt like skipping it would break everything.
AgentOne missed day doesn't undo three weeks — that's still your streak. Do the 20-minute version today and you're back on track. I'll check in Thursday to see how it felt.

Configuration

How the agent is wired for this use case.

Triggeran activity/habit event — workout_logged, workout_missed, streak_at_risk, a recovery_low reading from a connected wearable, or a goal_off_track flag — from the client's fitness/wellness app.
Tools & actions
  • Fitness/wellness app · read workout logs, streak state, and the member's goal and routine to time and target the nudge
  • Wearable/activity feed · read movement, sleep, and recovery readings to time nudges and, after a poor stretch, encourage an easier session or a rest day rather than pushing harder
  • Goal/progress tracker · compare recent activity against the member's own target and write check-in responses back to their history
  • Persistent memory · recall the member's goal, what motivated them before, and prior plateaus to keep coaching continuous
  • Messaging channel · deliver streak-recovery, milestone, and encouragement touches on the member's preferred surface
Autonomyhabit nudges, streak-recovery, milestone celebrations, and goal-trajectory check-ins run unattended under judge gating, quiet hours, and frequency caps. The agent coaches on activity and habit only and gives NO medical, diagnostic, or clinical advice; under a wellness-safety policy class, anything suggesting injury, disordered eating, or a health red flag is detect-and-escalate to a human, never handled by the agent.
Channelsin-app · push · chat
Escalationany reply signalling injury, a health red flag, disordered-eating language, or distress hands off to a human/clinical pathway with full context; a member who asks to stop is honoured immediately.

What you need

The inputs this use case runs on. Your channels stay yours; the agent supplies the judgment.

Signals

workout and habit-logging events, streak state, wearable activity/sleep/recovery readings, goal-trajectory checks, milestone dates, and member replies

Data

the member's stated goal and routine, activity and streak history, what has encouraged them before, channel preference and consent, quiet hours, persistent cross-session memory

Guardrails

activity/habit coaching only — no medical, diagnostic, or clinical advice; health-red-flag and distress detection with human escalation; judge gating on every unprompted message; consent, quiet hours, and frequency caps; stale-nudge cancellation on member return; holdout measurement; the client keeps owning the send channels

Metrics it moves

  • dau-mauup: timely, personal nudges open into real coaching sessions instead of dead-end notifications, keeping the daily habit alive
  • churndown: members who would drift off after a broken streak or a plateau stay engaged through the moment that would have lost them
  • ltvup: a longer, more active membership in a model where sustained engagement is the revenue, measured against the holdout
  • adherenceup: the moments that break a routine get a timely intervention rather than silence
